    The 35th Tsukuba Marathon

The 35th Tsukuba Marathon was held on November 22 under the auspices of the city of Tsukuba, the University of Tsukuba, Ibaraki Rikujo Kyogi-kai (IRK), and the Yomiuri Shimbun. Starting from and finishing on the University of Tsukuba campus, 16,000 people took part in the race. They ran while enjoying the autumn colors of the leaves on campus.

The marathon was held under the theme of “Marathon with a Scientific Look”.
Teaching staff of the Faculty of Health and Sport Sciences, the Faculty of Art and Design, and the Faculty of Engineering, Information and Systems cooperated to examine ways to organize the marathon effectively from viewpoints of the science of color and a city planning project.

To lessen overcrowding on the course, participants started the marathon in a wave this year. Vice President Shinnichi Tamagawa served as the starter for the third wave.
