International Conference of Lesson Study for Improvement of Classroom Quality supported by the University of Tsukuba was held from 24-17 November 2015 at Khon Kaen University, Thailand. More than 500 participants from 31 countries including 300 participants from countries other than Thailand (60 participants from Japan) attended the conference. Prof. Masami Isoda, the Center for Research on International Cooperation in Educational Development (CRICED), University of Tsukuba, gave a plenary lecture; and Mr. Masahiko Sakamoto and Mr. Nobuaki Kawasaki, Junior and Senior High School affiliated to the University of Tsukuba, show demonstration classes and gave their research reports.
Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Lesson Study Projects aim for the innovation of mathematics and science education based on lesson studies. The projects under APEC have been organized by Prof. Masami Isoda, University of Tsukuba and Prof. Maitree Inprasihta, Khon Kaen University with support by Japan’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) and Thailand’s Ministry of Education marked the tenth anniversary since 2006. This year is the Xth anniversary of the projects.
In every project yearly cycle, the beginning of each year, the anual plan is established at the APEC-Tsukuba International Conference in Japan; the plan is implemented in the 21 economies; and at the end of year, output is reported and shared at the APEC-Khon Kaen International Conference in Thailand. On this yearly cycle, CRICED enrolls as the core center for the Lesson Study networks in leading teacher-education institutions in 21 economies.
