President Mark Emmert of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) visited Tokyo on August 30 to attend an event on "State of College Athletics" as a speaker. The event was held as part of a joint project organized by the University of Tsukuba, Dome Corporation, and Temple University. He talked about the NCAA’s 100-year history and its transition and reform. He explained that management and leadership skills are important for the development of athletic departments in universities in Japan.
Board of directors from more than 20 universities attended his talk. A lively question and answer session ensued among the participants concerning the plan to form the "Japanese version of NCAA".
After the talk, President Kyosuke Nagata of the University of Tsukuba and NCAA President Mark Emmert made a courtesy visit to Yoshimasa Hayashi, Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.
