Credited Auditors

Undergraduate Credited Auditors

Undergraduate credited auditors who have been admitted to the university can register for classes at the undergraduate level. However, they may not attend interdepartmental classes for freshmen and sophomores, seminars, experiments, practicals, etc., when space is needed for degree students.

Credited auditors who achieve a passing grade in a course can earn credits. Credited auditors who meet the requirements of a bachelor's degree have the opportunity to apply for a bachelor's degree through the National Institution for Academic Degrees.

Graduate Credited Auditors

Those candidates who are selected as Graduate Credited Auditors will be permitted to take graduate level courses. The results from examinations taken throughout the trimester or final examinations may be recognized as earned credits. In the event that such credits have been earned by graduate credited auditors who later formally enter graduate programs at the University of Tsukuba, up to 10 credits may be recognized as transfer credits.

Application

  • Application forms are available in February.
  • It is required that applicants submit a "Certificate on Registered Matters" (proof of residence in Japan) as residence status is a condition for application. Application from abroad is not accepted.
  • By ministerial ordinance, an auditor wishing to change his/her visa status to a foreign student ("College Student") visa must take more than 10 hours per week of classes. On the other hand, other types of residence status may have different requirements. Therefore, you are advised to ask for details at the Immigration Bureau.
At our university, in order to fulfill the condition of "10 hours per week of classes", you must earn 24 credits per year (8 credits per trimester, in case of subjects that require 15 hours of study for 1 credit).
