Applicants with nationality other than Japanese must take the Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students (EJU), administered by the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) and must secure scores specified by the University of Tsukuba. Refer here
for specific details.
Prospective international students should take the appropriate sections of the EJU that relate to the college or cluster they wish to enter (see Section 4 EJU subjects). Only after achieving satisfactory scores in the EJU international students will be allowed to take the Entrance Examination for Foreign Students at the University of Tsukuba.
The International applicant must satisfy all the following conditions from (i) to (iii) in order to enter the University of Tsukuba.
(i) Applicant must be a non-Japanese citizen.
(ii) Applicants must correspond to any one of the following terms from (a) to (e). Also, applicants must have taken TOEFL (applicants for College of Biological Science, or College of Agro-biological Resources Science may take either TOEFL or TOEIC)
(a) Applicant must have completed or should be expected to complete 12 years of regular school education by March 31, 2010, in a country other than Japan. Or applicants satisfying standards specified by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT)

(A) Applicants who have passed the qualification test in order to relate his/her scholastic ability with a person who has completed 12 years of school education in a foreign country. The qualification test must be officially approved by the corresponding country. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age as of March 31, 2010.
(B) Applicants who have completed 12 years of schooling from any MEXT specified foreign education institutions in Japan having education system corresponding to the Japanese education system. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age as of March 31, 2010.
(b) Applicants who are awarded an International Baccalaureate degree by the International Baccalaureate secretariat, a foundation based on the Swiss Civil Code. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age as of March 31, 2010.
(c) Applicants who have qualified for "Abitur" in one of the states of the Federal Republic of Germany as a university entrance qualification and who are 18 years of age as of march 31, 2010.
(d) Applicants possessing a Baccalaureate qualification recognized as the qualification to enter university in the Republic of France and who are 18 years of age as of march 31, 2010.
(e) Applicants who have completed or are expected to complete 12 years of school education as of march 31, 2010 from an educational institute having authorization of WASC iWestern Association of Schools and Colleges), ACSI (Association of Christian Schools International) or, CIS (Council of International Schools).
(iii) Applicants who have appeared for "Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students" (EJU) administrated by the "Japan Students Service Organization" (JASSO). And have secured specified scored for the below designated subjects.

* Applicants must submit test scores of the above-mentioned examination administered by JASSO at the time of applying to sit for the Entrance Examination for International Students at the University of Tsukuba. You may use the results either from the June or November examination.
* TOEFL scores are also a selection criterion for entrance to the University of Tsukuba. Therefore, you must submit a copy of your certificate of results from this examination as well (students seeking admission to the Biological Sciences and Agrobiological Sciences courses may present their TOEIC scores).
- Selection Methods -
The candidates to be approved are decided on a written examination or practical examination (for the school of Health and Physical Education and the school of Arts), EJU scores and the submitted documents. The school of Medicine and Medical Sciences sets two stage selections.
The successful candidates of the first stage selection can go for the second stage.

Upon examination of the EJU scores and of the submitted documents, the university decides the candidates approved in the first selection.
b) Second Selection
The candidates to be finally approved are decided based on a written examination, an interview, and the result of the first selection.

This application form package is available at selected bookstores throughout Japan for 510 yen. For residents outside Japan who wish to take the examination, certain procedures can be arranged. Please refer to the website for the appropriate body to contact in your country.
