Global COE Program will provide funding support for establishing education and research centers that perform at the apex of global excellence to elevate the international competitiveness of the Japanese universities.
The aim of the FIRST Program is to advance the kind of leading-edge research and development that will strengthen Japan's international competitiveness while contributing to society and people's welfare through the application of its results. Program planning and core-researcher/research-project selection was carried out by the Council for Science and Technology Policy in the Cabinet Office. The University of Tsukuba was selected as one of the support organizations of the Funding Program for World-leading Innovative Research and Development on Science and Technology to support two research and development projects; Professor Yoshiyuki Sankai (Center for Cybernics Research, Graduate School of Systems and Information Engineering) and Professor Masashi Yanagisawa (Center for Behavioral Molecular Genetics). The university lends all-out support for them so that they can concentrate on their research and demonstrate their abilities to the fullest.
