Host: The Carbon Society of Japan, Tokyo
Co-host: Tsukuba Research Center for Interdisciplinary Materials Science (TIMS), Nissan Motor Co., Ltd.
With the support of the Tsukuba City Board of Education
What is carbon?
What are old carbon and new carbon?
What comes to mind when you think about carbon?
How is carbon used?
Carbon is deeply associated with the fundamental technologies in energy, environment, IT, and bio/medical care.
No admission fee is required. Please take a glimpse into the carbon world.
Date: December 6, 2008 (Saturday)
* Open Exhibition: Interaction Corner with Carbon Materials
| Time | 9:30-15:00 |
|---|---|
| Place | University of Tsukuba 30th Anniversary Hall (nearest bus stop: Daigaku Kaikan Mae) |
| Outline | Try to touch carbon products and carbon materials. Introduction of technology, products, and research and demo-experiments will be conducted. To give an example, fuel cells are consist of carbon. An exhibition and a test ride in a fuel cell vehicle will be conducted as well, so even if you cannot drive, come and experience a ride in the next generation eco-car. |
* Special Seminar: Dr. Hideki Shirakawa: "Carbon materials have one hundred faces"
| Time | 11:00-12:00 |
|---|---|
| Place | University Hall (nearest bus stop: Daigaku Kaikan Mae) |
| Outline | Dr. Hideki Shirakawa, Nobel Laureate in Chemistry in the year 2000 (for the discovery and development of conductive polymers), will hold a special seminar. We hope you will learn about the way of scientific thinking and interesting parts of science through his talk. The exhibition section (Shirakawa Corner) where you can compare conductive polymers and carbon will be set up. Please come and take a look. |
