Provincial Reconstruction and the Role of University -learn from the March disaster
The damage and revival situation in Iwate Prefecture, Miyagi Prefecture, and Fukushima Prefecture have attracted large attention from the public since the March disaster, as they have been severely damaged. On the other hand, the situation in Ibaraki Prefecture gained less attention considering the damage it has received. In this seminar, we will discuss the reality of Ibaraki's situation, with receiving information from staff of the local government. The subject of discussion is preventive measures and recovery measures against the disaster. In response to the large-scale disaster, we will think about a university’s role: (1) disseminate disaster prevention science to make a disaster-resistant community; (2) city planning to make a self-reliant and sustainable community; (3) safety engineering that helps to protect people’s lives and properties. Professors of the University of Tsukuba will present the topics, and they will discuss the matter with the staff of the local government.
