Selected as One of the Global Centers of the "Global 30"
The University of Tsukuba is selected as the core university of the Project for Establishing Core Universities for Internationalization ("Global 30") sponsored by the Ministry of Education‚ Culture‚ Sports‚ Science and Technology of Japan (MEXT).
The aim of this project is to facilitate internationalization at universities by increasing the admittance of foreign students and improving English education for Japanese students. The requirements for promotion offices are as follows;
- degree acquirement through English classes
- well established system for accepting foreign students‚ and
- establishment of overseas offices
The University of Tsukuba has many degree programs that provide courses in English for graduate students. On this occasion‚ six additional courses in graduate schools and three courses in undergraduate schools will be established. In addition the University of Tsukuba has established an overseas offices in the Republic of Tunisia. This office will be designated as "Overseas Office for Shared Utilization by Universities." The office will be used to support foreign students' acceptance in Japan. The project will be promoted and funded by the government over the next five years starting from Academic Year 2009.
