The 1st Discussion Meeting on Support for Students with Disabilities
The 1st Discussion Meeting on Support for Students with Disabilities for Academic Year 2012 was held on July 4.
The discussion meeting is held twice a year by the Office for Students with Disabilities (OSD)‚ aiming to promote exchange of opinions between students with disabilities and the university staff.
The meeting included two sessions: general meeting session and information exchange session by the types of disabilities. Besides‚ a get-together meeting was held after the meeting‚ for the first time.
Many people including Vice President Hisatoshi Suzuki‚ staff of the OSD‚ students with disabilities‚ peer tutors (support students)‚ and staff of the university participated in the meeting.
In the general meeting‚ "Campus-life report by students with disabilities" was held. Mr. Kosei Ogawa (fourth-year student of the College of Disability Sciences) talked about his own experience of having studied in the University of Arizona throughout last year. He gave some interesting episodes about the support system for students with disabilities in the U.S.
In the information exchange session‚ an overview of the first trimester‚ recognition of the students' needs and concern‚ and a question-and-answer session were held to exchange opinions with the participants.
At the get-together meeting‚ recreation and performance of musical instrument by students with disabilities were held; they enjoyed exchanges with the participants.
