Support for High School Students with Disabilities at the Open Campus

The University of Tsukuba Open Campus for Prospective Undergraduate Students was held for 3 days on July 30‚ 31‚ and August 1‚ 2012. 18 high school students with disabilities participated in it.

Briefing sessions of each College (College of Information Sciences‚ College of Physics‚ College of Japanese Language and Culture‚ College of Engineering Systems‚ College of Disability Sciences‚ School of Art and Design)‚ a tour on campus attended by the university students‚ and a trial lesson were held during the open campus days.
Peer tutors of the Office for Students with Disabilities provided support for the high school students with disabilities. They helped prepare materials for vision-impaired students‚ share information by the PC summary scribe for hearing-impaired students‚ and give movement support for students with movement disorders. They also had exchange with the high school students during lunch time and other break time.

On the last day of the open campus‚ briefing on the support system for students with disabilities‚ and individual consultation session were held.

It gave a good opportunity for the high school students to consult with staff of the Office for Students with Disabilities‚ students of the university who have disabilities‚ and peer tutors about their future college life.
