The University of Tsukuba supports university spin-offs by the following measures.
Support by the Research Projects for Promoting University-Industry Cooperation
1. Projects for Business Start-ups, which provide support for research and development to found spin-offs, by giving research funds from one to three million yen per year and research space if necessary.
2. Projects for Supporting University Spin-offs, which provide support for cooperative research with university as well as for research and development under a technological guidance by faculty, by giving research space if necessary.
Support by University Spin-off Supporting Unit of the Industry Relations and Technology
Transfer Office (IRaTT): A Business Incubation Manager, Technology Transfer Managers etc. of IRaTT provide students and faculty with consultation about founding and managing spin-offs. In addition, IRaTT holds seminars relating to spin-offs.
"Entrepreneurship Education Course" launched in accordance with the memorandum of understanding on regional collaboration between the University of Tsukuba, Tsukuba City, and Intel Corporation
The course, which was started in 2011, includes a lecture and workshop conducted by business entrepreneurs, targeting graduate students, university venture companies, and companies in Tsukuba City.
