    Guest Speaker Pro. Yasuhiko Tabata
    (Institute for Frontier Medical Sciences, Kyoto University)
    Biography Dr. Yasuhiko Tabata is the Professor and Chairman of the Department of Biomaterials at the Institute for Frontier Medical Sciences, Kyoto University and serves as visiting professor at 14 different universities in Japan and other countries. He received his BD in Polymer Chemistry (1981), Ph.D. (1988) in Technology, D.Med.Sc. (2002), and D.Pharm. (2003) all at Kyoto University. He received the Young Investigator Award (1990), the Scientific Award from the Japanese Society for Biomaterials (2002), the Scientific Award from the Japan Society of Drug Delivery System (2011), the Scientific Award from the Japanese Society for Regenerative Medicine (2014), and several awards. He has published 1,280 scientific papers including 120 book chapters and review articles, and has 130 patents. Dr. Tabata is the Board Governor of 5 Japanese Academic Societies or an associate member of the Science Council of Japan, Cabinet Office and the Editorial Board of 7 scientific journals.
    Title "Significance of Interdisciplinary Research Collaboration to Achieve Advanced Medicine"
    Abstract To realize disease treatment with medical devices, drugs, and stem cells, interdisciplinary research collaboration among engineering, medicine, pharmacy, and social sciences as well as the industry-university joint research development is required. This lecture emphasizes necessity and significance of various research collaborations to achieve the advanced medicine of interdisciplinary research field.
