|Subject||"Anti-Vax Campaign Using Pseudoscience and Lawsuits"|
|Summary||In April 2013, HPV vaccination entered routine use in Japan.
But two months later, the government made the decision to "temporarily" suspend proactive recommendations for the vaccines, while still keeping them in the National Immunization Program. This was evidently in response to alleged adverse reactions such as seizures, inability to walk, or memory loss. In July 2016, a lawsuit was filed against the Japanese government for compensation of the injuries allegedly caused by the HPV vaccines; the first instance of such a lawsuit in world history.
In this seminar, I will overview the anti HPV vaccine campaign that took control of the media and government decision-making, and look at the mouse experiments presented by Dr. Shuichi Ikeda, then professor of neurology, Vice Chancellor of the Medical Department and Dean of Shinshu University, who was commissioned by the MHLW to investigate adverse reactions to the HPV vaccine. Dr. Ikeda later sued me for libel for calling his presentation a fabrication; his behavior has been criticized by the global scientific community.
