    “Idaten” a period piece produced by NHK featuring the life of Tokyo Higher Normal School-educated (the present University of Tsukuba) Shiso Kanakuri, the “father of marathon” in Japan has gone on air from January 6. The drama also involves historical figures, backdrops, etc. personages and episodes related to the University of Tsukuba including Jigoro Kano, former president of the Tokyo Higher Normal School, known as the “father of judo” and also the “father of education” in Japan who discovered Kanakuri’s talent.

    In commemoration of this, we are holding the “Jigoro Kano and Shiso Kanakuri Special Exhibition” at three venues on different themes. In each venue, many historical materials including a pair of Japanese socks that Shiso Kanakuri wore in his training, and many other materials which shows the relation to the Olympic Games, Paralympic Games, and the University of Tsukuba. Please visit with your friends.

    Furthermore, the NHK-produced “Itaden” Exhibition is concurrently held by the NHK Service Center in the University of Tsukuba Satellite Office and Tsukuba Information Lounge (in BiVi Tsukuba). Please enjoy.

    Shiso Kanakuri Special Exhibition

    The Japanese socks worn for practice by Shiso Kanakuri and his autograph, etc. are put on display and photographs may also be taken using augmented reality (AR).

    Admission fee: 300 yen for high school students or older (200 yen for groups of 20 or more), free for junior high school students or under and disabled people
