G-SIGMA : Graduate School of Integrative and Global Multidisciplinary Arena (tentative name)

G-SIGMA

The University of Tsukuba is preparing to launch a new graduate school, G-SIGMA, the Graduate School of Integrative and Global Multidisciplinary Arena (tentative name), in AY 2027.
This page introduces the concept of the new graduate school and provides information for prospective students who may be considering enrollment.

Graduate School of Integrative and Global Multidisciplinary Arena (tentative name)

What is the G-SIGMA, Graduate School of Integrative and Global Multidisciplinary Arena (tentative name)?

The Graduate School of Integrative and Global Multidisciplinary Arena (tentative name) at the University of Tsukuba will serve as a new academic hub where nature, human, society, and human creations are all subjects of scholarly inquiry. By organically connecting multiple specialized fields, the graduate school seeks to integrate the pursuit of truth and the creation of value in a cyclical and unified manner.

It will generate innovative research that transcends traditional disciplinary boundaries—such as humanities and social sciences, law, biomedical sciences, science and engineering, and informatics—and create new innovations for society.

The graduate school will also provide an educational and research environment where students can learn directly from leading researchers active across disciplines. A multi-mentor system, in which multiple faculty members collaborate to guide students, will support students in both deepening their expertise and pioneering interdisciplinary research based on their own ideas.

Through these initiatives, the graduate school aims to cultivate highly advanced researchers and professionals capable of envisioning and realizing a desirable future, and to establish itself as a center of knowledge with global impact.

G-SIGMA is a new graduate school at the University of Tsukuba, consisting of the following five master's and doctoral programs.

Master's and Doctoral Programs in Innovative Legal Studies

These programs focus on establishing the legal order and the role of law in future societies where scientific and technological innovations, such as AI, become part of everyday life from interdisciplinary and global perspectives.

Prospective Faculty Members

Master's and Doctoral Programs in Private-Academic-Public Collaboration Studies (Tentative name)

These programs integrate science and technology, management, and policy to foster human resources who will lead social collaboration in the humanities and social sciences.

Master's and Doctoral Programs in Co-creative Next-Generation Energy (Tentative name)

These programs focus on materials science, energy, and computational science.

Master's and Doctoral Programs in Life Science Innovation

These programs are existing program based on the University's unique Collaborative Graduate School System, spanning the fields of life sciences, environment, drug discovery, and information.

MISSION

G-SIGMA addresses global issues that cannot be solved by a single academic discipline, advancing the integration of knowledge across disciplinary boundaries and its implementation in society.

◆ Interdisciplinarity: Education and research system across the disciplines of life sciences, information, law, economics, environment, and engineering
◆ Internationality: Partnership with 13 universities worldwide, multi-mentor system* with international researchers
◆ Practicality: Implement research outcomes in society and create new value
マルチメンター制

* The multi-mentor system is a framework that enables students to receive research guidance from multiple faculty members across different categories, such as various academic disciplines, universities, companies, or international institutions, according to their individual research topics.
