Kendo Athlete Nanami Onishi Claims Victory at the 51st All Japan Women's Kendo Student Championship

The 51st All Japan Women's Kendo Student Championship (Zennihon Joshi Gakusei Kendo Senshuken Taikai) was held at EDION Arena Osaka on July 22. Five members of the University of Tsukuba Kendo Club took part in the competition, including Ms. Nanami Onishi, a fourth-year student in the School of Health and Physical Education, who won the championship in the tournament.


Ms. Onishi made a courtesy visit to the university board of directors on August 22. The board members included President Kyosuke Nagata, Vice President Shin-ichi Tamagawa, and Vice President Satoshi Shimizu. She was accompanied to the courtesy visit by Professor Kunihide Kohda and Associate Professor Yuji Arita of the Faculty of Health and Sport Sciences (kendo club coaches).

All attendees at the courtesy visit reminisced about the events with the board members. At the end of the meeting, President Nagata and the vice presidents praised Ms. Onishi for her performance and offered her encouraging words.
