Tsukuba Model United Nations Group Wins Awards at the Model United Nations for the 2nd Consecutive Year

Following last year's success, the Tsukuba Model United Nations group from the School of Social and International Studies won two awards at the Model United Nations 2017, held in Washington DC, USA from November 3 to 5.

The Best Position Paper Award was presented to Ms. Oinam Maggi (4th-year student in the College of Social Sciences) and Mr. Maarten van der Plas (3rd-year student in the College of International Studies); and the Honorable Mention was presented to the University of Tsukuba team.

A total of seven members of the Tsukuba Model United Nations took part in the Model United Nations as a delegation from the Philippines. Serving on the General Assembly (GA1), the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA), they exchanged opinions about global issues with students from all over the world.

During the three-day event, all attendees with different backgrounds exchanged opinions to address global issues, including social responsibility of multinational corporations, illicit trade in small arms, and marine safety.

The Tsukuba Model United Nations group was formed in 2013 and has participated in the Model United Nations held in the USA every year. We would like to express our gratitude for all those who gave us their warm support.
