English Speech Presentation Contest 2017

Students preparing for their presentation paper, working with an international student

English Speech Presentation Contest 2017 was held at the Community Station in Global Village at the University of Tsukuba on December 2 and 3, targeting junior and senior high school students in Tsukuba City. It was held under the auspices of the Global Commons and the Tsukuba International Association.

The event provided the junior and senior high school students with an opportunity to work with international students to prepare for the speech contest. It aimed to make them feel familiar with foreign language and culture, and to help improve their communication skills.

Seventeen junior and senior high school students and 13 international students took part in the contest. Pairing off with an international student, each Japanese student (or a pair of Japanese students) prepared for their presentation paper. After working together to get prepared, the Japanese students made presentations on Tsukuba City in English.

Though they looked nervous at the beginning, they got relaxed after their presentations finished. A quiz contest was held afterward, all attendees enjoyed the two day event in a relaxed atmosphere.
