Global Village New Year Party 2018 was held at Daiwa Lease Community Station (Community Station) in Global Village on Tsukuba Campus on January 11, 2018. It was held under the auspices of the Department of Student Affairs of the University of Tsukuba and Tsukuba Global Academic Service Co., Ltd.

About 140 Japanese and international students moving into Global Village and Short Stay House attended the event. It started with taiko drum performance by Tokimeki Taiko Juku, a Japanese drum circle of the University of Tsukuba.
The attendees enjoyed multiple programs, including a conversation session using self-introduction cards, mochi pounding experience, street performance show by a student of the University of Tsukuba, Mr. Fronti, and a throwing game that calls up an image of the Ninja.

President Kyosuke Nagata and other board of directors also attended the event. The venue was well decorated for the Japanese Shogatsu (New Year), and the attendees enjoyed halal food offered in consideration of international students.

In addition, an award ceremony was held to honor students who were recognized for their excellence in cleaning the common space at their Unit in Global Village. Vice President for Student Affairs Shin-ichi Tamagawa gave them a word of appreciation and presented the award. Both Japanese and international students enjoyed communicating, and the venue was filled with excitement.

Some of the feedback from students were: "The food was delicious, and I was glad to have an opportunity to exchange with international students in other Units"; "I felt that lot of people made great efforts to enliven Global Village".
