Holding of the "STUDY in Japan Fair" in Argentina and Brazil

For four days on 18, 20, 21, 22 July 2018, the "STUDY in Japan Fair" was held in Argentina and Brazil.


For four days on 18, 20, 21, 22 July 2018, the "STUDY in Japan Fair" was held at the University of Buenos Aires in Argentina and at "Sao Paulo Japan Festival" in Brazil. As part of the Study in Japan Global Network Project (South America) of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology entrusted to the University of Tsukuba, this study in Japan fair was hosted by our university and conducted with a call for the participation of universities throughout Japan.

The "STUDY in Japan Fair" held in the University of Buenos Aires had 210 participants, mostly university students. At the overall explanatory meeting in the morning, a scholarship supported by Japanese diplomatic establishments abroad and Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) was explained, and participating universities were introduced. Moreover, experiences of studying in Japan and other topics were presented by students who have studied in Japan in the past and now returned to their home countries. In the afternoon, counselling was executed individually and participants enthusiastically were collecting information surrounding the table of participating institutions.


"Sao Paulo Japan Festival" is an official event of Sao Paulo and is one of the largest Japanese festival in the world participated by people of Japanese descent. The ceremony of the 110 year anniversary of Japanese immigration to Brazil was held at the same time and about 20,000 people visited the venue during the three-day period. Benton Caroline F., Vice President for Global Affairs of the University of Tsukuba, attended this ceremony as a guest.


A total of 3,700 people including high school students, university students, their parents and others visited the booth of "Study in Japan" installed in the site of the Japan Festival. Besides people involved in participating institutions, people of Japanese descent, students studied in Japan explained the charm of studying in Japan, educational program, scholarship and information on living in Japan, As a result, booths were filled with heated atmosphere all day long. In addition, an explanatory meeting of Japanese corporations was held on 21 July as a first attempt in the fair. In collaboration with four leading Japanese companies ventured into Brazil, information on career path after the study in Japan was provided through the introduction of Japanese corporations and individual counselling.
