SAKURA Exchange Program in Science

The University of Tsukuba invited 10 students and 1 faculty member from Los Andes University, Colombia for 8 days under the framework of Japan-Asia Youth Exchange Program in Science (Sakura Exchange Program in Science) administered by Japan Science and Technology Agency.


Colombian students had an opportunity to perceive forefront science and technology by participating in practice programs of laboratory activities as well as by paying a study visit to outstanding research institutes and experience of industrial study at Tsukuba Science City. It stimulated the participants to grow up with a wider perspective for the society and contribute to developing global human resources particularly between Japan and the countries.


The Opening Ceremony was held on December 4th at the University of Tsukuba.


Opening remarks were given by Vice President Dr. Caroline Benton F., University of Tsukuba, and His Excellency Mr. Alejandro Posada, Minister Plenipotentiary - Charge d'Affaires a.i., Embassy of Colombia in Tokyo, expressed their wishes to promote further collaborative cooperation between two countries and to actively encourage interaction with Colombia.
