Global Village New Year Party 2019

The Global Village New Year Party 2019 was held at Global Village, a shared accommodations of our university for both Japanese and international students on Tsukuba Campus on January 11, 2019. It was held under the auspices of the Department of Student Affairs and Tsukuba Global Academic Service Co., Ltd.


The Global Village New Year Party aims to promote international exchange, and about 100 Japanese and international students moving into Global Village and Short Stay House attended the event that was held for the 2nd consecutive year.


It started with the opening speech by President Kyosuke Nagata, and the attendees enjoyed multiple programs, including mochi pounding experience, Fukuwarai face-making game (one of the Japanese traditional game played on New Year day) and, taiko drum performance by Tokimeki Taiko Juku, a Japanese drum circle of the University of Tsukuba. The attendees proactively communicated with each other, and celebrated the New Year.


Near the end of the party, an award ceremony was held to honor students who were recognized for their excellence in cleaning the common space at their Unit in Global Village. Vice President for Student Affairs Shinobu Satoh gave them a word of appreciation and presented the award.
