Speaker of Swedish Parliament Visits President NAGATA

On February 9, 2024, Dr. Andreas Norlén, the Speaker of the Swedish Riksdag or Parliament, along with 19 others, visited our Tsukuba Campus. They engaged in discussions with President NAGATA Kyosuke, Vice President IKEDA Jun (Global Affairs), Vice President KATO Mitsuyasu (Education), Executive Officer OHNEDA Osamu (Director-General, Bureau of Global Initiatives), Director SAKURAI Takeaki (Office of Global Initiatives), and Prof. EZURA Hiroshi (Institute of Life and Environmental Sciences).

During the meeting, they reviewed past exchanges between Swedish institutions and our university and discussed possibilities for future collaboration.

On the same day, the delegation also toured the greenhouse at the Plant-based Material Production Research Building, led by Prof. EZURA. He explained the research and development of GABA-enriched tomatoes using genome editing technology.

Further cooperation between Swedish institutions and our university is anticipated.
