On September 22, H.E. Mr. Edward Wade Appleton, Jr., Ambassador of the Republic of Liberia to Japan, visited the University of Tsukuba and met with President NAGATA Kyosuke, Vice President for Global Affairs OHNEDA Osamu, and Prof. MORIO Takahiro of the Office of Global Initiatives.

During the meeting, Ambassador Appleton explained the current situation in Liberia. He noted that due to the country's prolonged civil war, many young people have been unable to receive adequate education and have consequently been left behind in society. He further stated that Liberia is focusing on human resource development and capacity building, particularly in the fields of agriculture, infrastructure, the rule of law, education, public health, and tourism. They also discussed building a cooperative relationship with the university.

Moving forward, both sides expressed their intention to deepen ties through continued dialogue, including exploring partnerships with universities in Liberia, promoting student and faculty exchanges, and considering scholarship programs.
