President NAGATA Visits Ghana

On August 2, President NAGATA Kyosuke and MIZUNO Shogo, University International Administrator (UIA) at the Office of Global Initiatives, visited Ghana. This was President NAGATA's third visit to the country, following his first visit in February 2025 and his second visit in January 2026.

During the visit, they met at the official residence of the Ambassador of Japan to Ghana with H.E. Mr. YOSHIMOTO Hiroshi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Ghana; UENO Michiko, Member of the House of Councillors; FUNADA Ryo, President of Shizuoka Professional University of Agriculture; Prof. Felix Ankomah Asante, former Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research, Innovation and Development at the University of Ghana; and Prof. Boateng Onwona-Agyeman of the University of Ghana.

The University of Tsukuba and the University of Ghana have had an academic exchange agreement in place since February 2025. Exchanges among faculty members, staff, and students have become increasingly active through MEXT's FY2025 Inter-University Exchange Project, "Interdisciplinary Field Study Program for Co-Creating Harmonious Future."

During the meeting, President NAGATA introduced the University of Tsukuba's academic exchange activities in Ghana. The participants also exchanged views on further expanding the activities of Japanese institutions, including the University of Tsukuba, in Ghana and strengthening future cooperation between Japan and Ghana.

The visit is expected to contribute to the further development of exchanges between the two countries.
