University of Tsukuba Signs Agreement toward Establishing Japanese-Style University in Tashkent
On July 23, an online signing ceremony was held for an agreement toward the establishment of a Japanese-style university in Tashkent.
The ceremony connected the University of Tsukuba's Tsukuba Campus with the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation of the Republic of Uzbekistan. President NAGATA Kyosuke and H.E. Mr. Kongratbay Sharipov, Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation of the Republic of Uzbekistan, signed the agreement on behalf of their respective institutions.
Participants from University of Tsukuba included President NAGATA; Vice President for Global Affairs OHNEDA Osamu; Vice President for Education TAKENAKA Yoshihiko; and Prof. USUYAMA Toshinobu, Regional Director for Central Asia. Prof. Timur Dadabaev of the Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences joined the ceremony from Tashkent.
Participants from the Uzbek side included Minister Sharipov; Golibjon Gaziev, Director of the Ministry's International Department; and Ulugbek Azamov, Deputy Director and Coordinator of the Japan-Uzbekistan Resource Center.
The agreement confirms the intention of the Government of Uzbekistan and University of Tsukuba to establish a consortium of Japanese universities and, through this consortium, work toward the future establishment of a Japanese-style university in Tashkent.
In his remarks, President NAGATA expressed his hope that the new university would nurture outstanding young people who will shape Uzbekistan's future and provide them with an environment in which they can realize their full potential.
The agreement is expected to further deepen educational cooperation between Japan and Uzbekistan.
