The visit was organized following the opening ceremony of University of Tsukuba Tbilisi Liaison Office, held on May 17, 2026, and was made possible with the support of H.E. Mr. ISHIZUKA Hideki, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Georgia.

At Georgian American University, President NAGATA delivered a lecture entitled Beyond Borders: From Nations, Disciplines and Organizations to Innovation Ecosystems, introducing initiatives undertaken at University of Tsukuba.

At the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia, President NAGATA met with Givi Mikanadze, Minister of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia; Zviad Gabisonia, Deputy Minister of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia; Nikoloz Beselia, Head of the International Relations Department; and Teimuraz Dochviri, Director General of the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of Georgia. They exchanged views on opportunities for academic exchange between Japan and Georgia.

Since April 2024, University of Tsukuba has been implementing MEXT's Project for Strengthening Overseas Network Functions to Promote Study in Japan (CIS Region) and has been working to promote exchanges between Japan and the Caucasus region, including Georgia.

This visit is expected to contribute to the further development of exchanges between Japan and Georgia.
