Entrance Ceremony for the Fall Semester for AY 2026
On September 30, the entrance ceremony for the fall semester of AY 2026 was held in the University Hall Auditorium. A total of 243 students—71 undergraduate students and 172 graduate students--began a new chapter at the University of Tsukuba.
In his address, President NAGATA Kyosuke stated:
Congratulations to all new students on your entrance to University of Tsukuba. All of us at University of Tsukuba would like to extend a heartfelt welcome and congratulations to you. We also extend our sincere congratulations to your family and all involved.
Solving contemporary social challenges requires "knowledge" that combines multiple academic disciplines. To all of you who will become the leaders of society in the near future, I sincerely hope you will take an interest in societal changes from a global perspective and recognize these challenges as your own. And I hope you will expand your learning beyond your area of expertise, developing the ability to act based on responsible thinking once you enter broader society.
You will be expected to lead society as pioneers of a new era. In an age when the future cannot be envisioned as a simple extension of the past, you must think deeply about what you must do and act accordingly.
I would like to encourage you to work hard to acquire a broad range of knowledge and deep expertise, and to eventually go out into the world and become leaders who will open up the future for people and the Earth.
He expressed his expectations for the new students.
The ceremony continued with an introduction of university officials and concluded with a performance of the student song "Hitachino-no" by the University of Tsukuba Mixed Chorus and volunteer staff members. Written and composed by a University of Tsukuba student in 1976, the song was performed to celebrate the new students and wish them well as they begin their studies.
