A research group of Dr. Kunio Kawanishi, Assistant Professor at Faculty of Medicine, University of Tsukuba, in the research conducted at the Glycobiology Research and Training Center (Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine, University of California, San Diego, UCSD), found that an evolutionary loss of gene ‘CMAH’ may have resulted in a heightened risk of cardiovascular disease in humans.
