Buds of Science Prize

Outline of the "Buds of Science" Prize

In order to honor the achievements of Nobel Prize laureate in physics, Dr. Shin-itiro Tomonaga and raise awareness toward nature and science, the "Buds of Science" Prize was established in 2006. This prize is presented to individuals who demonstrate their enthusiastic efforts toward science in their works. The prize winners will receive a prize certificate and a commemorative item from the university president.

The Origin of "Buds of Science"

The word,"Buds of Science" came from the message from Dr. Sin-itiro Tomonaga at a discussion meeting among Dr. Hideki Yukawa, Dr. Sin-itiro Tomonaga, and Reona (Leo) Ezaki that was held at the Kyoto International Conference Center in November 6, 1974, where Dr. Tomonaga was requested to send a message to children. The original message is kept in the Kyoto Municipal Science Center for Youth.
