What sparked your interest in this university?

What sparked my interest in the University of Tsukuba is its outstanding reputation as one of Japan's top universities, known for its innovation, research excellence, and global outlook. I was also drawn to the unique opportunity to study in a Japanese environment while still being in my home country. This allows me to experience authentic Japanese education and culture firsthand, without the immediate challenges of adapting to a new environment abroad. I am inspired by how the university combines academic rigor with creativity and diversity, encouraging students to think beyond boundaries. Its emphasis on developing global-minded individuals aligns perfectly with my ambition to learn, grow, and contribute meaningfully to society.

What aspects of Japanese culture or customs surprised you? How did you adapt to these differences?

Before joining, I had the impression that Japanese people were very stoic, quiet, and distant. However, I was pleasantly surprised to discover how warm, friendly, and welcoming they truly are. Even though my Japanese language ability is not yet strong, many people communicate patiently and kindly with me, which motivates me to keep improving. I have learned to adapt by being more polite, using proper greetings, and showing gratitude in daily interactions. I also observe how respect is expressed through small gestures, such as bowing or using polite expressions. These experiences have made me feel comfortable and accepted, as if I am already part of the community, and they continue to inspire me to understand Japanese culture more deeply.

What do you enjoy about the University of Tsukuba?

Although I study at the Malaysian campus, I truly enjoy the University of Tsukuba's inclusive and multicultural environment. I have the privilege of interacting with students from many different cultural backgrounds, which broadens my global perspective and strengthens my communication skills. The sense of community is very strong--there is no discrimination, and everyone supports each other, regardless of nationality or background. I also appreciate the close relationship between students and professors, who always encourage discussion and creativity. This makes learning feel more engaging and meaningful. What I enjoy most is how the university promotes open-mindedness, teamwork, and mutual respect, making it not just a place to study, but a space to grow as an individual and a global citizen.

What do you hope to achieve during your time here?

During my time at the University of Tsukuba Malaysia, I hope to gain the broadest possible exposure to various academic fields and expand my worldview. I want to excel in my studies while developing practical and interpersonal skills that can help me contribute meaningfully to society. However, I believe success should not be measured by individual achievements alone. For me, true success means empowering others, sharing knowledge, and growing together as a community. I aim to collaborate with my peers, learn from diverse perspectives, and create meaningful projects that have a positive impact both within and beyond the university. Ultimately, I hope to graduate as a well-rounded individual who values learning, empathy, and contribution over competition.

What do you think makes the University of Tsukuba special?

The University of Tsukuba Malaysia stands out because it values students' voices and encourages collaboration among students, professors, and staff. I truly appreciate how our opinions are taken seriously to improve the campus environment, making us feel directly involved in the university's growth. This close relationship creates a strong sense of unity and respect, where everyone works together toward common goals. What makes Tsukuba truly special is its spirit of continuous improvement--the belief that progress is achieved through cooperation and shared ideas. The university embodies innovation, diversity, and mutual understanding, which reflect the real "Tsukuba spirit." It is a place where both academic excellence and human connection flourish hand in hand, shaping future leaders with heart and purpose.
