What sparked your interest in this university?
My interest in the University of Tsukuba was sparked by its reputation for interdisciplinary education and innovative research. I was drawn to its unique approach of integrating various fields, which encourages creativity and problem-solving beyond traditional boundaries. Additionally, the university's commitment to internationalization appealed to me, as it offers numerous programs in English and attracts students from all over the world. I also admired Tsukuba's emphasis on practical learning and real-world applications, especially in cutting-edge areas like robotics and environmental science. In addition, the campus environment and the opportunity to engage with diverse cultures made me feel that this university would be the ideal place to grow both academically and personally.

What aspects of Japanese culture or customs surprised you? How did you adapt to them?
One aspect of Japanese culture that surprised me was the deep emphasis on politeness and formality in everyday interactions. From bowing to using honorific language, I noticed how respect is woven into communication. Another surprising custom was the strong sense of community and group harmony, where people often prioritize others' feelings and avoid confrontation. Additionally, the punctuality and attention to detail in public services, like trains arriving exactly on time, stood out to me. To adapt, I made an effort to learn basic Japanese honorific expressions and observed how locals behaved in different social settings. I also embraced group activities and tried to be mindful of others' feelings, which helped me build good relationships and feel more comfortable in Japanese society.
What do you enjoy about Tsukuba?
What I enjoy most about the University of Tsukuba is its vibrant and inclusive community. The campus is spacious and green, providing a peaceful environment for study and relaxation. I appreciate the wide range of academic programs and the opportunity to learn from passionate professors involved in various kinds of researches. The university also offers many clubs and events, helping me connect with people from diverse backgrounds. Regarding the Tsukuba region, I love its balance of nature and urban convenience. The surrounding parks and mountains offer great spots for hiking and outdoor activities, while the city provides essential amenities and a friendly atmosphere. This blend of academic excellence and natural beauty makes Tsukuba a wonderful place to live and study.
What do you hope to achieve during your time here?
During my time at the University of Tsukuba, I hope to deepen my academic knowledge while developing practical skills through research and collaboration. I aim to engage actively in interdisciplinary projects, especially those addressing real-world challenges like sustainability and technology innovation. Beyond academics, I want to participate in extracurricular activities that promote cultural exchange and community building, such as international student clubs and volunteer programs. I also hope to contribute to creating an inclusive and supportive environment on campus by organizing events that bring students from different backgrounds together. Ultimately, I want to grow both intellectually and personally, preparing myself to make meaningful contributions to society after graduation.
